Fab Feb

Even though day, month, or year alliterations border on the passé, the circles I move in have declared ‘Fabulous February’. By this we allude our belief that the month of February is going to be somewhat special, a little out of the ordinary, and probably exceptional as far as our encounters with God go! Traditionally, because of Valentine’s Day, February has always been considered – at least in the Western world – the month of love. This consideration is attested by the flurry of commercial activities and offerings around this day/month.

That aside, I believe that God – being Love – makes every day of the year a special one; each day is marked by His extraordinary love and the various ways in which we experience that. But this year the month of February is simply going to be fabulous. This seemingly common adjective is going to become an expression to attest to God’s out-of-this-world goodness.

The English dictionary defines fabulous as: exceptionally good or unusual; wonderful; superb; almost impossible to believe; incredible. Oh my, indeed a word rich in meaning and expression! This adjective is perfect when trying to define who God is! Isaiah records, “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6 NKJV). The very first description of His name is Wonderful. One could easily substitute the word fabulous here without losing any of the meaning!

If just this one thing is considered, it also sets the tone for a truly fabulous February! This is the month in which, if we choose, we can experience God in new, fresh, and wonderful ways. We will see God like we have never seen Him before, and in a way, get to meet Him seemingly as if for the first time. So often we try to impose our three-dimensional understanding of the world on the personality of God, and by that, miserably fail to encapsulate the indefinable and unique character of our Creator.

God, simply put, is exceptionally unusual. This God whom we serve is non-dimensional and multi-dimensional all at the same time! This God whom we serve is not only the beginning but also the end. Not only is He light, but He dwells in darkness – all at the same time. God is equally at home and knows me before I was born, while I am alive on earth, and way beyond my passing from this world into His eternal presence; and not at separate times but all at once. Almost impossible to believe. Fabulous. Incredible.

I am excited to continue my journey with Him, and I am hopelessly expectant to be overwhelmed by fresh revelations of just how marvelous He really is. I am excited for February! May I be so bold to invite you to join me on this quest of discovery. Truth is, our quests may be similar in intent, but our experiences will be polar opposites! Together, however, your experiences will encourage me as mine will yours. Together we are going to discover just how wonderful God really is; and at the end of the month, we will be more desperate than ever before to continue this quest. Shall we go?
